Peña de Bernal and Gorditas

Pena de Bernal, a place where we go up the mountain, once every few months, to aleviate our stress and to touch our spirit and soul.

Bernal is actually the best place to eat Mocahete and Gorditas.

A gordita in Mexican cuisine is a food which is characterized by a small, thick tortilla made with masa harina (corn flour). The gordita is in contrast to a taco, which uses a thinner tortilla. Gordita means “fatty” in Spanish. The gordita is typically baked on a comal, a small pan similar to a skillet.

Petites bouchées, Christmas Night

Petites bouchées

Simple things go a long way.

-a box of crackers

-a container of homemade pâté

-homemade pesto from the freezer

-homemade cheese

-fresh basil leaves from the garden

Being away from home, I usually spend Christmas Night at home, with families and friends and we put together a meal from the left over of the Christmas Eve… ‘le Réveillion de Noel’.

So I put together those little bouchées, from what I could find around in the kithen.

As a main dish, we had lamb, perfectly cooked and oh so good and to top the night, we played Monopoly until 2ham…!

Little bow, Christmas is here

Little bow, Christmas is here!

When I look into your soft green eyes When I see your delicate body Revealed to me as you slip off your dress I’m reminded what I feel for you Will remain strong and true Long after the pleasures of the flesh Then I’ll go on loving you I’ll go on loving you I’ll go on loving you Me in the rain or the wind Or the moon up in the sky The spin of the earth or the change of the tide I don’t know what brought us together What strange forces of nature Conspire to construct the present From the past Then I’ll go on loving you I’ll go on loving you I’ll go on loving you.

Feed a fat man fat and protein

Detail of a red and white square dish towel

‘Feed a fat man fat and protein in place of starch and sugar and he will deal with that quite well, drawing on his stores of body fat in the process.  Paradoxically he will eat fat and grow thinner.  He will also feel well because he will no longer be subjecting his body to starvation and he will be tackling the fundamental cause of his obesity which is not overacting but a defect in the complex biochemical machinery of his body…’  The effectiveness of high-fat, low carbohydrate diets in obesity will continue to be surprising so long as people continue to regard body fat s an inert slab of suet stored round the hips and in the other fat depots…from Eat Fat and Grow Slim Oh, I love reading this little book!

Ok that been written, here is a great recipe for frozen cookie dough, one that can be made 6 weeks in advance and be used just like that.  It is very handy to have around, specially this time of the year where the house seems to be always full of stop by friends and families.  Even if I am a carnivore person, I still have to entertain with the social foods that most of the human person eats… :
