Real Pumpkin pie

Pumpkin by itself

I have never made pumpkin pie, never.

My first ever homemade pumpkin pie from scratch and not from can

Pumpkin is in my book, something that does not taste good at all.  This vegetable is so big that most of the time, it is used for carving a funny face and the rest is just discarded.  With years, I guess my taste bud has grown up and now, for the last 2 years, I can honestly say that I becoming to like the taste of the pumpkin.

Yesterday, out of the blue, I grabbed a small pumpkin at a street market around here.  Back at my place, I splitted the pumpkin in half, took a big spoon to remove the seeds inside, peeled the outside skin and cut everything in small pieces.  It was cook in a bit of water, on top of the stove, just like cooking potatoes, which took about 10 minutes.

I ate the pumpkin with a bit of salt and a drop of butter.  It was actually pretty good.

Now this morning, I was left with about two cups of cooked pumpkin so I decided to make a pumpkin pie with it.

Everybody I know has its own fabulous and sometimes secretive recipe.  So for me, as a pumpkin pie is a new thing to bake, this recipe above will do just fine.  By the smell invading my kitchen right this minute, there is hope for a future with this one!
