Curry Cardamom and maple syrup bread

This recipe was entered at BYOB April 2012

Please bake this bread, it is so good and the aroma in the kitchen will bright up any rainy day for sure.

1 tablespoon of maple syrup

1 tablespoon of curry

1 tablespoon of cardamon

1 teaspoon of salt

1 cup of warm water, mixed with 2 teaspoons sugar and 1 tablespoon of dry yeast

2 tablespoons oil

2 cups flour

Pour the warm water into a bowl and mixed in the sugar and the dry yeast.  Let the yeast comes alive, by forming a foam on the surface of the water, about 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, mix the spices together, the syrup and the oil, add the flour.

Add the yeast mixture and work out the dough until elastic and has a nice non sticky feeling to the touch.  Add a bit of flour if needed.  Place the formed dough into a greased bowl and let it rise until double in size, under a clear sheet of plastic.

After rising, bring the dough down and work it out, to form into one loaf.  Drop the dough into a well greased baking pan.  Cover again, let it rise until double in size.

Turn the oven on at 375F.  Remove the plastic sheet and bake the bread for about 30 minutes.

This bread will have a kind of yellowish color and a divine aroma.

The addition of maple syrup cuts down a bit the bitterness of the curry.  A very nice bread, simple yet, magical.

  1. Oh, I love the sound of this bread. I can just imagine the heavenly scent! I would love to give this a try. Thank you so much for sharing it with BYOB this month :) !

    • Sorry about that, because I add maple syrup in most of my dishes, I sometimes forget to write it down. Maple syrup, added in one tablespoon at a time does wonder to a recipe. A kind of secret ingredients for me.
