Dumplings homemade

Following our cooking class on how to make dumplings, we finally, last Saturday, made them at home.

So finally, on a very cloudy day, we decided to make our own dumplings.  I eat dumplings for breakfast… just because I LOVE dumplings!  They are so easy to make, with almost no ingredients but left over in the fridge.  These were made with ground beef, onions, spices, cabbage, garlic and ginger.  I decided to fry them in a bit of sesame oil and then, add 1/4 cup of water to the pan of 12 dumplings, and let it cook until the water was all gone.

I got my ‘dumpling’ flour at the ‘Richgate Shopping Center’ in the Shenhe District, here in Shenyang.  A dumpling flour is a finer flour than the regular one, but any flour could do just the job.

As for the Peanut Hoisin dipping sauce, I made this one but personnally I eat my dumplings with a drop of sesame oil mixed with soya sauce, simple.

For the dough :

Mix 2 cups of white flour with 1 cup of boiling water.  Using your hand, form two rolls of dough.  Cut each roll into 12 parts (24 in total).  Using your hand, flat into a small circle, each piece.  Take a rolling pin and roll each circle into a bigger one, as thin as possible.  Do not use too much flour here, just enough to prevent the sticking part on the counter top…  Fill the flatten circles with about 1 teaspoon of your meat mix, pitching the edges to close it.  At this point, they can be frozen before cooking them.

Recipe for the Peanut Hoisin dipping sauce:

1/2 cup of water

4 tablespoons of creamy peanut butter

4 tablespoons of Hoisin Sauce (Isetan here in Shenyang carries this sauce)

2 tablespoons of white sugar

Mix all ingredients together and use as a dipping sauce for the Dumplings.
